Just Wondering

I’m wondering why sometimes

Joy is in the getting

Not the giving.

I’m wondering why sometimes

Self is more important

Than selflessness.

I’m wondering why sometimes

The negative takes precedent

Over the positive.

I’m wondering why sometimes

Resentment rules over

Apposite admiration.

I’m wondering why sometimes

Brittle hate bars

Love’s attraction.

And I wonder why

One cannot rejoice

In another’s triumph?

Is it only human?

Is it the way

We have evolved?

If it is so,

I don’t like it.

It seeds hurt and despair.

I’m wondering why

I’m wondering now

For no reliable reason

Why I’m writing this at all.

I‘m simply wondering.
