Happy New Year – It’s Closet Cleaning
Time!
My husband and I are home now after walking our dogs three
miles. It is so beautiful out this morning, January 1st, 2014. The
sun is shining bright, the sky is a sapphire blue, and the cool air is a bit
crisp, just enough to tingle my face. We didn’t need jackets though. Sweatshirts
were enough. Although we need rain really badly, I have to appreciate the
beauty of the day.
Many people were out this morning: some were walking their lucky
dogs, too; some were running or jogging, music from earphones escorting them
along; some were riding shiny, new bikes with toddlers or babies bobbing in
plastic seats on the back; some were ambitiously taking down Christmas
decorations; and some simply stepped outside to admire the day. Everyone was
friendly. “Happy New Year,” they hollered, and we did too. It was nice.
With the New Year come those well-intended resolutions. Do
you have one, or two, or more? I usually have “lose ten pounds” at the top of
my list, but it never happens so I’m scrapping that one this year. What I do
plan to do is clean my closet! I’m going to get rid of about a zillion articles
of clothing I haven’t worn since . . . well, since I can’t remember. I’m taking
everything to Sacks, the Hospice store. I’ve decided that a less cluttered
closet might mirror my life. I’m ready to unload the unrest and angst of 2013. I
won’t forget it, but I don’t need it churning ceaselessly inside my skull. Someone
once told me that if a person cleans out his glove compartment, his life
changes for the better. I’m banking on a less chaotic closet doing the same.
(Maybe I’ll do both.)
Happy New Year! To anyone reading, I wish you a wonderful, healthy, happy, peaceful, loving, and clutter-free 2014. I believe we all have the ability to change the quality of our lives and I’m beginning this year with my most deserving closet!
